2 May 2017; Lagos, Nigeria: IHS Nigeria, the Nigerian subsidiary of IHS Holding Limited (“IHS”), the largest mobile telecommunications infrastructure provider in Africa, Europe and the Middle East, has won the Business Day Most Innovative Telecoms Infrastructure Company of the Year Award. The award was received during the 2017 Business Day Top 25 Most Innovative Companies Awards Ceremony at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria.
The award seeks to establish a benchmark for outstanding performance in the telecoms industry and recognises and celebrates strong leadership, high quality operations and the rollout of innovative technology solutions.
IHS Nigeria won this year’s award for its commitment to investing in and strategically deploying new cutting-edge hybrid power solutions across its portfolio, which improved overall performance for its customers and helped reduce CO2 emissions. In June 2016, IHS also completed the first in-market African mobile infrastructure consolidation transaction with the acquisition of Helios Towers Nigeria Limited, bringing 1,211 diversified tower sites throughout Nigeria into the IHS portfolio.
Additionally, in 2016, over 65,000 Nigerians benefitted from IHS Nigeria’s CSR programme focused on four pillars including business ethics, people, environment and education. Over the past year, IHS Nigeria launched its Generator Recycling Programme which increased power access for 53 communities and institutions including schools, hospitals and orphanages and helped address the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) crisis by sponsoring an empowerment and training initiative for 40 women to manage 15 community food service centres across Borno State as well as local school feeding programmes.
