September 04, 2024, São Paulo: IHS Brazil, part of the IHS Holding Limited (NYSE: IHS) (“IHS Towers”) group, one of the largest independent owners, operators and developers of shared communications infrastructure in the world by tower count, is today inaugurating its Technology Innovation Center in Santo André, São Paulo State, in partnership with the Centro Universitário Fundação Santo André.
Through this center, Centro Universitário Fundação Santo André and IHS Brazil will work together to explore innovative solutions, such as the potential adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence, with the long-term aim of helping make cities “smarter”.
The city of Santo André was chosen for its proximity to major centers, and to allow the product testing and future implementation of technologies to be piloted on a smaller scale. This partnership also helps IHS Brazil strengthen ties with the academic community, with the long-term aim of becoming a talent incubator, fostering startups and investing in innovation in alignment with the company's mission to enable connectivity. It builds on existing partnerships with the academic community, most notably, its current participation in a product development research program for the telecommunications industry with the Universidade de Ouro Preto.
Antonio Maya, Chief Technical Officer, IHS Latam, commented, “This partnership is important to our Innovation area, through which we intend to train telecommunication engineers and equivalent, and help connect academia to our sector. We look forward to working with the academic community on this project, and together contributing to innovation in our sector.”
The official inauguration takes place today at Fundação Santo André and will be attended by Antonio Maya, CTO, IHS Latam; André Ituassu, COO, I-Systems; President of Fundação Santo André, Rodrigo Cutri; Professor Mario Garcia of Fundação; the Secretary of Development and Employment Generation, Evandro Banzato; the General Director of the Santo André Technology Park, Marcos Godinho; and Marcelo Scacabarozi, Regional Manager of ANATEL, São Paulo.
