IHS Brazil Expands Agroforestry Project in the Amazon with Milestone of 44,000 Seedlings Planted

April 25, 2025, São Paulo: IHS Brazil, part of the IHS Holding Limited (NYSE: IHS) (“IHS Towers”) group, one of the largest independent owners, operators, and developers of shared communications infrastructure in the world by tower count, has completed the planting of a further approximate 20,000 seedlings, covering 10 hectares, under the Apuí Agroforestry Coffee Initiative.

The Apuí Agroflorestry Coffee Initiative has been developed by Amazônia Agroflorestal and the Institute of Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon (Idesam), to implement agroforestry systems that combine native and agricultural species. The initiative has planted more than 260 hectares, 23 of which were supported by IHS Brazil. Since IHS Brazil’s partnership with Idesam began in 2021, over 44,000 seedlings have been planted.

This initiative reaffirms IHS Brazil’s commitment to the recovery of degraded areas and the sustainable development of the Amazon region. This voluntary undertaking covers an area equivalent to the approximate footprint of IHS Brazil's 2023 greenfield tower construction program. In addition to the positive environmental impact, the initiative promotes sustainable coffee production, offering an alternative income to local communities and helping strengthen the regional economy.

For the next planting cycle, expected to commence later this year, IHS Brazil will plant an additional 25,000 seedlings, significantly expanding the project’s scope and impact.

Michel Levy, CEO, IHS Brazil, commented, “This project represents our commitment to sustainability and to local communities in the Amazon. By combining environmental recovery with income generation for local producers, we are helping create a cycle of sustainable development. The partnership between IHS Brazil and Idesam has proven to be an effective model of collaboration between the private sector and environmental conservation organizations, demonstrating how targeted investments can generate significant environmental and socioeconomic benefits”.

André Vianna, Technical Director, Idesam, commented, “The support of long-standing and strategic partners, such as IHS Brazil, has been fundamental to strengthening and expanding the impact of the initiative. Over the course of our four-year partnership — including investment in the 2025 planting cycle — IHS has actively contributed to the socio-environmental development of a region with high potential for reducing deforestation, through the implementation of systems that combine sustainability and production.”
